BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE RESCUE SQUAD
Contact: Peter H. Morris, Assistant Chief
September 29, 2000, Bethesda, MD - The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad will hold its annual open house, Rescue Day 2000, next Saturday, October 7, from 11:00AM to 4:00PM. Similar to last year, Rescue Day 2000 is being held in conjunction with the Taste of Bethesda, the outdoor food festival held just two blocks away in Bethesda's restaurant district.
Rescue Day 2000 will feature fun-filled fire and rescue activities and displays for all ages. Volunteer members of the B-CC Rescue Squad will provide tours of the station, a live vehicle extrication demonstration and free hot dogs and sodas. B-CC Rescue Squad volunteers will also distribute free children's firefighter hats and KidCare identification kits. In addition, B-CC Rescue Squad's most advanced firefighting and rescue equipment will be on display, including emergency vehicles and the CairnsIRIS thermal imaging camera that is used to help locate fire victims in blinding smoke. Rescue Day 2000 will even include a special visit by the U.S. Park Police Helicopter Eagle One, which is frequently used to transport critically injured patients to area hospitals when time is truly of the essence. Rescue Day 2000 visitors will have the opportunity to talk to the flight medics and explore the inside of Eagle One.
B-CC Rescue Squad is located at 5020 Battery Lane, at the intersection of Old Georgetown Road and Battery Lane. Visitors of Rescue Day 2000 and Taste of Bethesda may park for free at the National Institutes of Health parking lots on Rockville Pike. Complimentary shuttle buses will run every 15 minutes between B-CC Rescue Squad and Taste of Bethesda.
